Did You Know?

Some helpful tips that

make life a little less stressful.

What Do You Appraise?

We appraise all jewelry, gemstones, watches, and silver flatware.

Do I Need An Appointment?

Yes, please. We work by appointment only. Please call, text, or email for a convenient time that works within your schedule.

We will briefly discuss what services you require and how many items you would like examined. Upon exchange of that information,

we will be able to determine the approximate length of time needed for your appointment.

Your items never have to leave your sight and you can experience the examination process during the appointment.

We also respect your privacy; all appraisals are strictly confidential.

What Should I Bring To An Appraisal Appointment?
In addition to your jewelry , timepiece , or flatware, please bring any documentation that came along with your purchase.

This can include receipts, warranties, previous appraisals, documented evidence of provenance, or certificates of origin or authenticity. If you have you diamond or gemstone report (e.g. GIA or AGS ), make sure to bring it along, as it adds value to

have laboratory documentation.

Why Do I Need Current Appraisals For My Jewelry?
By far, the most common reason is for insurance purposes. Over the years, the value of your jewelry and gemstones can fluctuate greatly. If your last appraisal is over three years old it may be out-of-date and, as a result, your jewelry could be insured for less than  or significantly more than its replacement value. That means you risk a substantial financial loss if your jewelry is lost, stolen or damaged. Alternatively, if it is priced higher than its actual replacement value you are at risk for paying excessive insurance premiums on an inflated value. MP Jewelry Appraisal and Consulting LLC will provide you with accurate appraisal reports based on current market values so you can obtain adequate insurance coverage. You may also want to determine the value or authenticity

of your jewelry for estate and tax purposes, fair liquidation, divorce settlements, donations and loans.

For your protection, we recommend you have your jewelry appraised every three years. An incredible benefit for choosing MP Jewelry Appraisal and Consulting is that once we have performed a full appraisal, we offer complimentary updates within three years and a minimal fee after three years of your original service. It is an ethical standard that item must be present for inspection and evaluation to receive this complimentary update. Please see “ TYPE OF APPRAISALS” for more information.

How Long Does It Take?
Duration of time for each appointment, depends on each unique situation. Multiple items and complex, elaborate pieces will

require extra time. You may sit in our studio an experience the appraisal or you may leave it in our possession and return for it later.  Ample time will be needed for cleaning, inspection, repair recommendations, gemological and metal testing, weighing, measuring, and photographs. Once the data collection process is completed, additional time is required for accurate and thorough research

and preparation of your appraisal report, but during this part of the process, you and your jewelry does not need to be present.

Of course, you are welcome to stay and wait for your final appraisal if you choose.

Being respectful of your time is one of our top priorities.  All appraisal and consulting services are performed with

an expedited turnaround time from the initial inspection to presentation of the documentation. For your convenience,

you will receive a signed digital copy of your document as well as a hard copy.

Where Are You Located?

We are located at 20 Seminary Avenue in Hopewell, New Jersey 08525.

We are an independent company, but share studio space with Beth Ann Designs.

Do You Do Off-Premises Appraisals?

With our portable lab, MP Jewelry Appraisal and Consulting LLC can provide appraisal, sorting, and consulting services

in the privacy of your home or office. This service is also available for on-site estate appraisals. The fee for an on-site visit

is a minimum of $300.00 (normal price rates apply).  Digital copies will be delivered at onsite appointments and

hard copies will be mailed or delivered in a timely manner.

What Does An Appraisal Cost?

Appraisal fees are based on a per item or per hour basis. Per hour basis sometimes works in our client’s favor when there

are 5 or more items. The exception to per item or per hour pricing occurs when dealing with a complex or elaborate piece.

A greater amount of time may be required for researching and conducting gemological testing, which will be reflected in the price.

(e.g. A client scheduling an appointment for “ one ring “ could range from a solitaire engagement ring or a multi diamond and gemstone hand made one of a kind cluster ring.)

The final price will be discussed during the initial consultation. Please do not expect any pricing surprises.

Pricing will be fair, ethical, and agreed upon by all parties before the appraisal process begins.

Note: MP Jewelry Appraisal and Consulting LLC will charge for services by the hour, by a specified amount per piece of jewelry, or for a contracted amount based on an estimate of the time involved.

Keep in mind that time will be spent on market research and report preparation after the laboratory work is done. It is against all standards of ethics for an appraisal fee be based on the percentage of value

of the jewelry. Please check our pricing list for more detailed information.

Do You Buy Or Sell Jewelry, Diamonds, Watches, Etc?

As an independent appraisal company we do not buy or sell jewelry, watches, diamonds, gems, or gold.

We maintain a neutral position that allows us to act with no conflict of interest.  We will not buy or sell, but we can help

by providing a quality analysis document that the seller can use in the selling process. Liquidation appraisals and

Gemstone Identification or Authentication services, can assist with preparing you to sell your jewelry by determining price,

describing the item, and providing professional documentation.

received in the course of an appraisal appointment be kept private and undisclosable to third parties without your written consent. The only exception is if disclosure is required by force of law.
